Community Day of Service at Tete
Morne and Montine
Kokioko visited Tete Morne and Montine during
Community Day of Service and found residents there involved in two road-paving projects. The Chairman of the Village Council
accompanied by a few returning Londoners and other residents of the Picodeau area were in action on the Picodeau road. They
are determined to pave that road all the way to the river. So far much progress has been made on that project which has the
potential of opening good agricultural and housing lands in this beautiful part of the south of Dominica. Picodeau area is
truly a tranquil haven where retirees can find solace, comfort, peace of mind and a peculiar closeness to nature. The efforts
of the people of that area must be commended. It is hoped that other Tete Mornians living abroad would contact the village
council and make a contribution to this project so that in future they and their children
will enjoy such a fantastic place.
The other project was also a road project in the
heart of Montine. The residents there were out in their numbers to give a helping hand. This particular road will give them
easier vehicular access to their homes. However, they expressed the need for a culvert to be installed on the road as the
small ravine crossing it, overflows when it rain heavily. It is reported that children cannot cross the road when it rains
heavily. Therefore something must be done about it.
The people in Montine were in high spirits when
they were visited by KOKIOKO and the Parliamentary representative on Community
Day of Service.
Other news out of Tete Morne / Montine is that
there are plans for the construction of a multipurpose community resource center in the community. The only problem is to
identify suitable land for this project and for a possible playing field. These facilities are regarded as key for the community,
particularly for the growing population of young people. |
